I have a Caravan at Talacre, Point of Ayr Holiday Park, I am a fly fisher man but would like to try sea fishing. I have bought a cheap rod and reel and intend to fish from the beach, when do I fish, where at Talacre is the best place to fish and if anyone is fishing this weekend or next week Thurs/Fri could you give me some pointers. Any help would be appriciated.

Hi Princejim, Thought I would answer your query seeing as no replies up to now purely on the safety aspect.
Sea Fishing and newcomer to Talacre beach! The normal fishing time for that beach is at low water and fishing into the main channel where you can expect to catch mainly flatfish at this time of year or indeed any time of the year really. The bait you should try is Lugworm or Ragworm usually obtainable in the Rhyl tackle shops. BUT line- Beware of Talacre as once the tide starts to flood it races across the very long flat beach and if not aware it can land you in all sorts of trouble. Fish about 2 hours each side of the low water and then get out. As a rough guide, look for the lighthouse and fish anywhere around there and into the channel. Not much point in fishing the high water at Talacre or anywhere within 2 miles of there. Hope it helps a bit. Groveller

Princejim there has been some great reports on here about that beach my advice is to read them as they are full of good safety advice and the tips on them are outstanding. It is not a good beach to fish if you dont know it! There is a link to post on the page that will let you search for post's on that subject. Good luck and weome to sea fishing PS salt water fly fishing is also an area you may want a look at

When you get on the beach walk to the right towards the dee estuary and fish by the green bouy over low water but WATCH THE INCOMING TIDE.

Thanks for the replies, this sea fishing sounds dangerous? I have tried doing a search on Talacre a 90 day one but got no results? Watch the tide seems to be a good point my wife says a few weeks ago some woman was up to her waist in sand by the lighthouse!!!! Seems I have picked the wrong beach to buy a Caravan on. If I live I will let you know what happens, watch this space.

If you do fish Talacre take a compass or gps with you and take a bearing on the light house. Sometime a thick seafog can come in from knowwhere.

weevers apparently lie under the sand in the shallows they are very toxic, best advice ive read is find what they look like and if you catch one, don't touch it just cut your line just because its poisonous doesn't mean it should be killed. ;D

ive fished talacre beach many times due to my grandfather being a resident of the village, i have always been told that if you go to the beach car park then walk to the right down the beach at low tide to the green bouy but its a hike, about a mile but you fish into 30 ft of water because you right next to the channel, talacre beach is deadly to the unexperienced angler the tide comes in faster than you can walk its like a wave about a ft high that doesnt stop same as morecombe bay tide goes out 9 miles there, and whjen it starts coming back in, only a quadbike can out race it, ahh well the dangers of cockling.

in regard to weavers,if you are unlucky enough to stand on one or have one silly your hand ,try and get effected area into water as hot as you can bear and seek medical advice asap heard of some people having very serious reaction to the toxic weeing on the sting will not help/thermos flask with hot water will.
