Me and my mate Andy fished Penmon on Sunday evening, into dusk. When we got there the point was busy, so we moved to a spot in front of the houses. The wind was blowing and the sea was coloured, so we didn't hold out much hope of anything. The seagulls were working hard about 6-700 yards out, on what looked like a big shoal of mackerel, but none were caught closer in to the feathers and spinners. Once it started to get dark and the crowds had headed for home, we managed to get a good spot on the point. I was using a dexter, Andy tried a popper. After a few casts working up a gully, I got into a small pollack (probably about half a pound), which I shortly followed up with another. This had Andy diving into his bag for a spinner. Shortly after, the water around our feet started bubbling. A mixed shoal of pollack and mackerel had chased the whitebait up the gully and were smashing into them Had great sport with the fish, and we ended up with 10-15 Pollack and probably as many mackerel. biggest fish was no more than a pound, but all were returned (untouched). All were caught about 6-12 inches from the rock in front of us. Was a brilliant evening, but we stayed a bit on the late side in our enthusiasm, and it was a bit hairy getting over the weedy rocks Was anyone else on the forum there? if so, how did you do? We tried to keep an eye on the action earlier on, but it was hard work in the wind.

Sounds like a repeat of Friday night.
Was it the gully right on the corner where the tidal flow rips round? Amazing when the water bubbles like that - looks as if it is actually boiling!
On Friday, though, a lot of the macks were a really good size, 14/15 inches long.

Hi nige, Yeah that was the one. Great sight isn't it Just goes to show, sometimes it's worth staying on for that extra 20 minutes. I think there were some good fish in there, just a bit of a lottery when there is a frenzy on. ;D Glad you had good fishing, Tight lines, Stevo

Stevo,
When you say on the point do you mean the shingle beach or to the right of the lighthouse or somewhere else.
Did you try a chug bug?
Well done anyway sounds like a good time there.
Abbo.

Hi Abbo, Sorry for the delay in replying, don't manage to get on as much as i'd like We started off fishing in front of the houses, to the right of the lighthouse, then moved over just to the left of the lighthouse. Didn't try a chugbug, though I believe they are working very well there. We didn't have one with us, but won't make the same mistake again Good luck, Stevo
