Well the match went ahead today at Seaton beach in Cornwall.
We got there at about 13..30 and on the way picked up Shane (Cantcatchacold) who is the fundraiser for St Lukes Hospice.
All looked good with a slight breeze just making some wave and patchy clouds in the sky.
My wife, kids and one of their friends set up a booking in station on the entrance to the Beach.
Anglers started to arrive and book in.
Each recieved a Match sheet with our site info and promotion for the sponsors who had donated prizes and stuff.
Everyone was welcome to the match and there was a very good, pleasant atmosphere. Anglers came from Plymouth, St Austell, Truro and even as far as Cambourne.
A total of 25 Anglers booked in for the match and made a registration donation for St Lukes Hospice.
We spread our across the beach at low water and the fishing began at 15.00hrs.
Fishing was slow and no bites came for anyone. The sun broke through and it bacame a very sunny and pleasant afternoon.
Whilst the adults fish the kids played and it was a very pleasant afternoon.
And played and played.
Three hours into the match and not a fish was caught.
The last hour saw everyone changing rigs and trying desperately for any fish. Some even resorted to targetting mackerel but even these didnt play.
At 19.00 the match ended and all met up at the booking in station.
No fish for anyone at all, not a sausage and not even a chewed bait.
The trophies and prizes where issued after a draw for a winner and a draw for best fish. At least they would prove a token to remember the day from. Again the friendly banter continued and all where 100% for the charity we fished for.
I was very pleased that the youngest angler fishing was pulled out the hat. He took the Match Winning Trophy and prizes of a Boat Road, Anglers towel, varivas draw top bag, Rockbottom Bass plug. This was M Knight (junior) of Plymouths 24-7 SAC.
The runner up prize and trophy was awarded to S Ashton of 24-7 SAC who was next out the hat. He recieved a trophy, varivas draw top bag, pack of storm shads and a rockbottom bass plug.
The last thrill of the day was the raffle draw and several small prizes ranging from a bottle of wine to a box of biscuits where drawn.
The group all gathered for a couple of photos and to make presentation of the funds raised to St Lukes Represenative and angler Shane.
Funds raised where as follows:
Registrations/ Donations £140, Raffle tickets £52 and a special cheque from 24-7 SAC from Plymouth of £100.
Total £279.07
I think everyone enjoyed the day which was a very pleasant meet and competition. Shame there was no fish caught but hey thats just not always needed.
I would like to thank all those members who came to the competition and some who travelled a considerable distance to take part.
It was lovelly to meet Kernowbass and his mate Dave, FishandChips and his partner and Cantcatchacold.
Thanks to Shane (cantcatchacold) for his help and support in making this event possible.
Special thanks to 24-7 SAC from Plymouth www.24-7sac.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk who went far beyond the call of duty in their attendance and generosity. What a great bunch of blokes and ladies they are.
Also a big thanks to Trevor of www.surefishing.co.uk and hope all comes good for future matches.
Also a casting instructor attended, didnt fish but arrived just to meet. I have been looking for one myself down this way and am pleased to pass on his details. Mike of Westward Casting Association 01752 209052.
I think all where very pleased with the work everone put in to making this a happy day and St Lukes Hospice (www.stlukes-hospice.org.uk/) have benefited by Anglers enjoying their sport.
Should anyone need anymore information then please contact me. Sorry if I have missed anyone out.
It is late now and the sun got to me a bit today.
Lastly a big thanks to Clives Tackle and Bait in Plymouth for their Sponsorship and also Veals Mail Order. Each gave prizes for the competition. I cannot forget that Sea View Tackle and Bait, Plymouth also helped a great deal and posted and promoted the event.
Thanks to all who attended, promoted, sponsored and all without forgetting TheImage (Glyn) who had the idea for this and supported throughout.
