Had a return visit to test out a theory that the smoothy I had on Friday was no fluke. Went armed with a bucket full of peeler crab and some "up and Over" rigs with very long traces. The peeler crabs kept the dogfish at bay and only managed to catch three of these after dark. Rain came in and I braved on determined to get another one. At around 11.30 the rod nodded over and I was in. You just know its a smoothy. Good weight and bend on the rod and a job to wind as fast as the fish can swim. They also head up and down the beach making you follow them up and down. Even in the wave wash they keep going. Excellent scrap. This was smaller than the fish I had on Friday and I would guess it at around 4 1/2 lb. A long and lean one. Amazing how the fins of the fish are almost translucent. So it was no fluke and grab your crabs and get after them. ;D
