hi everyone This is my first visit to the forum as a member and I am looking for some help. Next week I have the chance to fish off a small boat which my partners dad has moored on the river Fowey at Galant. He has never fished before but I have kitted us up with 20lb class gear. He says he is happy to go out past Mevigissey, so if anyone could help us with any advice on tackle or any tips that would be great. A couple of mackerel for the pan would be fantastic. I will post a report on our return. cheers

I'd be interested how you get on, I'm down that way in a couple of weeks. Hoping to get the kayak out around the Fowey area. ;D

There are plenty of reefs arounf the Fowey area in the Bay. The ground there will see you into plenty of whiting, guarnard and dogfish. I used to catch plenty of red bream off marks around here in a boat. They dont seem to be there anymore. Remember the Fowey estuary is a bass nursery area.

ive had some lovely red mullet and plaice from the fowey off the shore
fishing over sand near the mouth of the river from the rocks near moneypenny? (something like that) beach.
Got chatting with a local a while ago who was doing particularly well
he put his faith in smelly old ragworms, and they were really smelly, but the mullet and plaice loved em, think he picked up a few bass too
