A group of us from work are going out of holyhead on the 16th of June, can anyone give me some advice on what gear i will need, what the tide runs like in this area and what is likely to be caught. Any help will be much much appreciated.

we were out from holyhead yesterday the 3rd' mac, not too meny' coaly, pol, but mostly tope, we landed 7 lost 5, bigest about 25lb, lost count of dogs, I was blested ''only caugh two dogs on one cast, but did allright on every thing else, unlike a lot of anglers, no inches or lb added, just a sturdy boat rod, I would take a couple of mac, but then the mac could be in with a vengence by then, small hocks for every thing else, enjoy'

My boat was moored at Holyhead for years and one of the charter skippers a close friend of mine. There's many different marks around there and many different ways to fish them but here's the most common. Bolivar Rock is the green bouy off Church Bay which is in a direct line straight out of Holyhead harbour. If you fish this you'll probably drift over it for pollack and coalies. There's many wrecks and you'll probably anchor over them and catch bull huss (I had one to 15lb) cod, conger, pouting, spurdog and more. If you anchor or drift over sandbanks you'll get ray, tope and dabs. There may be a chance you'll steam out of the bay to Treardurr or Wylfa etc and may get bass and many other species.
Take Hokai traces in case you drift over Bolivar. Also take a few conger rigs and other various bottom rigs.
Baits, take some sandeel, mackerel and squid.

Hi Scott, if this weather holds out we will hopefully be in for a good day. Tide on the day is a 29.5ft dropping to 28ft by mid afternoon. Therefore this rules out going to the deep water for wrecks, tope and spurdog. What this leaves thought is the opportunity for some excellent inshore fishing - pollack, wrasse, coalies, huss, dogs, smoothound + more etc. At the moment we have the algae bloom, this has pushed the mackerel offshore for us, so cannot guarantee any fresh at the mo. By the 16th though should be better. Recommend a good selection of baits - mackerel, squid, ragworm and peeler crab (get some collected or ordered now - lol). There are some really good smoothies knocking around, these are from the last few days. The first is 21lb 9oz - Even managed one myselfregards Gethyn
