Hi All Anglers Afloat are having their summer competition on the 23rd July. It's just a load of fun. The rules are simple, all you need is a kayak, a rod and a camera. You can fish anywhere from midnight Sat to Midnight Sunday for as long as you want. You then report your catch with photo evidence and wait and see .... There is a 9.30am high tide and a 10pm high tide so I'm intending to fish both. Venues depend on the wind. If any of you fancy joining me I'm sure it will be a great day. ;D john www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=6427724 Hour Species Hunt.

Cheers John you beat me too it, was going to post as soon as all the details were up on AnglersAfloat. Like John says it's a bit of fun, makes you think a bit about where you fish and which baits and rigs you will need, gives it all a purpose and when the fish fail to take you just drop some feathers and bingo, five species on the first drop SM

i am going to try new brighton for the first time for this comp, if anyone wants to join me send me a pm and we will sort out times and where to launch from. The tide pull can be quite bad near the fort so i will be launching about 1 mile down where the tide pull is fine

Have just heard from Dennis Spike of California based Coastal Kayak Fishing Inc, www.kayakfishing.com he has kindly donated copies of his DVD "The Kayak Fishing DVD" as prizes for the AnglersAfloat Tournament, these will be awarded along with our Medals and the normal public humiliation of photo and crown, not sure on quantities as yet, but will keep you all posted. Dennis contacted AnglersAfloat after the Winter Tournament and asked to be informed of our next event, glad we let him know. Cheers Dennis

Dave and John are going to New Brighton, I am setting off from dinas beach at 4 am-- the tide is low at 4am high at 10am. I am heading for the reef to get bream, pollack, black dog and anything else that is hiding there. From there I am off out in to the bay for flatties, thorn back, bull huss, macc , gurnard and may be a big tope HA ;D that should see the tide turned. Home for few hours then hoping to fish the next tide (2pm on wards)for some bass and anything i missed on the first run. The weather is looking great. If you want to join me at any time I will be on Channel 72 and easy to find.

Nice one John and Dave good luck with your plans, although I won't be competing (wouldn't be right) I hope to fish 3 marks several miles apart, so will be fishing the morning tide for Plaice, gars, LSD's and bream, at mark one, driving on the slack to second mark where I will fish for bream, wrasse and bass, then off to the third mark for the rising tide, fingers crossed for ray, smoothhounds, mackeral, and possible a weaver. What do they say about best layed plans SM

Hi all, am I right in saying there is'nt a specifc venue for this tourny? Do you just set off to your own places, and record your catch for the day? I take it this is a trust thing?
A very confused Bassless

As John says, it's a fun thing all run on trust, it's the only way with all of us spread across the UK, makes it a little more interesting as well, different species from different parts.
Just need one shot with the yak bow shot on the water and away you go. Send the low res images (small files please) to me at the tournament email address on AnglersAfloat.
Have fun and play safe, that's what it's all about, got a few medals and hopefully some DVD's when they turn up as prizes.

Entries have started to come in and there have been some interesting catches, some small and some even smaller, if you managed to get out and fish the tournament on Sunday please get your entries into AnglersAfloat before the deadline. Even if you only managed one mackeral, please send in the shot as I want to tally up the total species caught on the day... you might even get in with a chance of a medal. Cheers SM
