Finally the weather broke and the wind dropped for the day, so Martin and I set off for a couple of hours fishing for thornback. We needed to get 3 miles out to find them, it took 40 min's to get to the mark and the sea was flat calm ... perfect,,,,. We started by getting some fresh macc for bait, that was easy, there are plenty out there. Martin landed the first one under a hail of abuse from me. But it wasn't long before I landed my first followed by 4 more over the next 90 min's, Martin landed 1 more, so he can go back to South Wales a happy man(ish) cos i beat him this time ...all in all we got what we went out for so a good day. Remarkably we didn't hit one dog. I'm not sure why. click on the video after all that we had a 3 mile paddle back but it was worth it john

My initial reaction to the Thorny fishing was - so what! just like dragging a wet sack up from the bottom! ;D but when I realised via the pics that you were fishing from a Kayak - great stuff - sooner you than me so close to that evil tail. Super report and pics. Ah well, wish I hadn`t piled on so many years on myself otherwise I would be out there with you in your Kayaks! I recall tidal venues from the beach unfishable for more that two hours because of the dangers of being cut off where stonking great silvers used to inhabit where a Kayak would have been the perfect solution to fish these spots. Power to your elbows you Kayakers, hope to see some brilliant catches soon. Groveller
