This may seem a really really stupid question but here it goes.............. i want to start spining for bass and pollack but do you HAVE to fish from rocks or wade into the surf? because i am a bit of a wimp and dont go on rocks (AT ALL) and not too keen to go wading out to my waist. there is a stone jetty that goes out about 250 yards, people have been getting pollack and small bass while their feathering for macky's. or is it ok to spin near the rocks?
i am new to this spinning lark so please bear with me and any advice would be great!
;D ;D

Bassy,
Find out where the fish are, you will probably have a rough idea, and you will probably see them too.
That jetty seems an ideal place to start. Also river channels, I'm not too familiar with Aberystwyth but the rivermouth on the flood would probably do ok? I'm guessing that is where the jetty is?
Get a few surface lures, and spend some time of an evening reading the water. With surface lures you don't need to be wading so much either.

I've only had the chance to fish at Aberystwyth once, it was at 5am about this time of year 2 years ago on the stone jetty. I was on the left hand side casting out a j13 jointed rapala plug, on the third cast I had just wound in with the plug hanging in the water & was about to cast again when I saw a silver flash in the water, next moment my rod was bent double & I was taken completely by suprise. Eventually I landed a 5.5 lb bass my first bass which I was'nt expecting & that was it I've been hooked ever since. Don't get me wrong I like beach casting & relaxing watching a rod tip, but plugging is just a whole different experience.

I was fishing on the steps on the left hand side, nearly broke some bones though because it was a slippery as an ice rink on the smooth green weed. I was'nt very far out & I managed to beach the fish, I was just using a 9' light travel rod & trying out the plug, the trick seems to be to get there at dawn because I had no bites later on. I wish you success in spinning plugging ect, I think you live in the right place for it.
