Opps - my computer went funny there...
As i said i haven't fished in ages apart from a few chucks with the spinner along colwyn bay prom which is teeming with mackerel at high tide.
I fancied a crack at the silver ones having never caught one in all my four years as a sea angler. i have decided to make it my 'mission' in my two week holiday, and i figured if i go fishing every day for two weeks with the right bait/tackle/venue i should eventually get one...
Went to fish llandullas yesterday with one rod and a pack of ragworm. There was a hell of a lot of weed in the first 20 feet of water, but past that and it was relatively fishable. I found that if i had the rod tip wound right down to the grip lead and held it up really high then the line would avoid the weed.
Anyway i blanked but it was a lovely sunset and i had two massive bites that almost took the rod out to sea but i missed them both. The fish probably dropped the bait due to the resistance of the line (i was fishing a paternoster).
I'll be back when my legs have had some rest (its a difficult bike ride with a rod, tripod, tacklebox etc.!)
Tight lines, Vaclav
ps. I have noticed that the weed/slime is present all along the prom... Is there anywhere near Colwyn bay where it is less of a problem? pps. If anyone feels sorry for me and wishes to give me some advice on where i would have the best chance of landing a silver one, please PM me. I can fish from pensarn to deganwy - past those marks and i am too tired to fish!

You must be carrying too much, A tripod is useful but not essential. Cut down the amount of weight you carry 3 or 4 should be enough, 3 or 4 rigs, a pack of spare hooks and a spool of leader. All tis should fit into a waist pack or ruck sack easily. Those bites you missed were most likely what you were after. I have in the past cycled from Holywell as far as Llandudno like this. A bit of improvisation and you can use your bike as a rest if not nearby rocks or Dolos(dragons teeth/criss crosses) if you're fishing over high.

Hiya Vaclav Hope it weren't you that passed me n the missus on Oxygen Hill about 9.00pmish as were were going back to Pensarn on our bikes lol If it was I thought you were practising for the role of trainee Knight in The Colwyn Knights Tales and how to Joust "! the guy on a bike on his way to Colwyn Bay from " LLANDDULAS " and passed us with all his rods pointing in all directions like a jouster, if it wasn't so serious a safety issue it would have been funny. Good to know your getting about though and tight lines

Largerider - your right! Although in that situation the tripod was essential, i am definitly going to leave a few things behind next time... Your idea about using the bike as a rod rest is brilliant - i'm gonna try it out tomorrow morning in the garden!
The Thunderstick - Thanks for correcting my spelling! Although the timing seems about right i would have liked to have thought i had the situation under control....(but it probably was me!!!)

Hi Largerider,
Thanks for the invitation! Any idea what time and where you will be? What kind of bait would you suggest? I am looking forward to seeing the professionals in action!
