just thought i would let you know, my wife works in asda on the fish, yesterday she had a chappy come in with a tape measure and measured the bass, then started ranting about taking asda to the cleaners these fish are all undersize. she then informed him their bass are farmed in greece so dont come under our size laws thought it might save anybody else looking a fool because i did ask her myself when i saw them.

The farmed bass looks completly different from proper stuff. Farmed stuff doesnt look healthy and I wouldnt eat it. I laugh every time I see the farmed stuff on the fish counter but at least they are making an effort not to sell the real stuff thus reducing stocks. ;D

I only ask if the label says they are wild bass - and yes I have had a go at them in Llandudno junciton tescos and yes they were undersize and illegal.

In my local Asda some of the mackeral are as big as the bass, it annoys me though when the label says "Sea Bass" when clearly they have never seen the open sea

have you seen the fish in morisons lately ? lucky if the dabs are 6" ,and joeys being passed off for mackeral fillets at " wait for it " £5. 25 a kilo. I reckon fisheries should look into the sale of these undersize fish in supermarkets, if anglers or angling boats are found to be keeping such small fish there would be a hefty fine so why can they get away with it when we cant ?

monair,if they were illegal why was it not reported and the supermarket fined, unless this happened and i did not read it in the news papersas i am sure it would of made the press.why do we as fishermen/women always have to rant on about other people making a living from fishing commericallylets get our facts right, find out exactly were the fish are from and /or report them to fisheries dept..
