Well Steveb is on his second week of his holiday and we met up for another trip out of Watchet, Somerset. Just a short trip (4hrs) with skipper Shaun Anning on "Seafire" Tel 01984 634507 or 07711 215695.
Steve and myself where really keen to catch a decent ray and this part of the Bristol Channel has produced many.
I nearly missed the boat and just go on with a couple of minutes to spare. Traffis and roadworks as usual.
We set out from Watchet harbour at 1pm and arrived at the mark 15 minutes later.
Photo of Watchet harbour in the distance.
This was a view to the West which shows Blue Anchor Bay and Minehead.
We set up with 8oz leads and long traces baited with combinations of Sandeel, squid, s.pra.ts and mackerel.
Downtiding or uptiding was the order of the day.
First 1 1/2hrs Steve 3 dogfish and me 0. A couple of small congers and baby tope also came into the boat.
Photo I shot of Steve waiting for a bite.
Next couple of hours more dogfish and I got off the mark with a couple.
No rays came out to play but it was a very enjoyable short trip.
Steve' last fish was this perfect little baby tope which after all is a species ticked off for him.
Steve then modelled it and pretended he had an 18" tope where most have got something else!!!! or was that just me with the camera. ;D
Another big plus was the skipper was a real star and I would recommend him. Kept us well supplied with Tea and fresh bait all the way through.
I know I just have to ge out again and get one of those Rays so I can show Steveb the photo! ;D
Safe Journey Back Steve and will do it all again next year.
;D ;D ;D
