hi scotty welcome to the site.first get yourself a currant legal size limit chart so you don.t break any rules.have a troll round your local charity shops for cook books on fish(miles cheaper than shop prices) you will get loads of info, second have a look in the bigger supermarkets fish counters, and don.t forget to ask other fishermen.a few not worth messing with would be wrasse garfish.weavers though tasty are very dangerous to handle.some fish though edible are returned its like a gentlmens agreement, tope being one of these.and remember never take more than you need. hope you enjoy your fishing and don,t be scared of asking questions its how we learn.al

Hi' Scotty, moste fish that come from the sea are ok to eat, I would agree with AL, on all he says, but then it depends on taste, certainly not good sporting fish like tope' God bless them' but you are a northaner and you will enjoy mackiril but not rock salmon (dog fish) were as in the South it seams the other way around, but smooth hound are nice , proberly because they love crabs, which brings me to spider crab they may look like they come from another planet but they are very nice. now to stage one, ''first catch your fish, welcome and good luck, and we are on hear for eachother, ;D

Thanks ..al and .. cliffnorry never thought about a fish cook book . Only got a rod and reel last week a Bass rod . Tried it out at Powfoot and caught a small flounder on rag worm … put it back .. Tried Balcary Bay on Sun With bits of mackerel on for bait and one of those artificial baits that are suppose to out fish the real thing ( I do wonder if they do ). Any way caught nothing .. The bits of mackerel was taken back to the hook. Had the whole beach to my self so really enjoyed the peace . Next port of call will be Brighouse Bay Anyone been there lately any advice on bait welcome .

You're best asking that on the Scotland forum so I've moved this thread to the Scot forum for you.

Tried Powfoot again this afternoon …. Nothing I think all that comes out of there is Flounders but saying that there was some big bass jumping and not very far out . Witch surprised me because it’s mostly flat and sandy any way they weren’t interested in watt I had to offer .. Bits of mackerel ,lug , squid , . Perhaps should of tried spinning ?
