Deoends what size yuo are after, for general schollies and up to about 4lb try 2 hook flappers with size 1-1/0 hooks baited with lug, rag, peeler or razorfish. If you want larger fish try BIG peeler baits on a 4/0 pennel, or whole squid, mackeral head and guts, you will pick up alot of doggies with the squid and mackeral though.

Cheers for that mate! What do you tink I should use baitwise off a sand/shingle beach? I caught a 1.5 pound bass off the beach before with rag but was lookin for flatties at the time?

I would still tend towards peeler or soft crab if I was targetting Bass, I have had by far the majority of my fish to this bait.
Have a look on favourite rig thread on non-fishing related forum, the double running ledger rig shown on there looks ideal, not used it yet but have had good successes with the similar pulley rigs

arrrrrr your rigs dont need to be fancy for bass, if you are fishing in the surf on a sandy/shingle beach, i would guess the shingle is at the top of the beach? i would use a fixed paternoster: swivel trapped with crimps or telephone wire between 2 beads about 18 - 24 inches from lead link. use SHARP 3/0 hook, the sakuma manta's are great, on a snood of at least 18 inches, the type of beach you describe ususlly fish best when its a bit rough, and in anything but a flat calm running ledgers don't run properly, the fixed set up will tangle less. As far as bait is concerned an a sandy beach black lug is ok, i find it works as good as crab where i fish, which is a sandy beach. The rougher the sea the further you should cast. and last but not least, after you have cast in HOLD YOUR ROD and feel for bites, you will know when you get one, they usually give a good few tugs or a tap and slack line. good luck.
