Having used braid for spinning for 2 years and for beachcasting for the last 9 months or so I have found that 30lb braid will still break at the knot to 50lb leader. I did try putting a 25lb weak link between the braid and leader for a while, but that caused more trouble than it was worth.
For my spinning I use 20lb braid tied to 20lb fluorocarbon, the knot still always goes first. Therefore I reckon you could use 20-25lb mono or fluoro leader and still be confident of just the knot going everytime

I don't know if it will help, but I have used braid for meny years, and the first thing I put on my braid is a link swivel by dubleing the line and tieing a half blood knot with lock, then what ever I use will have a swivel on it to go on to the link, I have never had a problem, hope that helps'

tighten clutch/drag, point rod at snag, hold spool and pull like hell. i always use a length of mono about 2 foot attached to a swivel that is permanently attached to the braid, like cliff, if you use say 15lb braid and 12 lb mono the mono should break first, so you get your expensive braid back. I would not use it for distance casting, if you get a birdy the stuff diggs in and is very difficult to untangle, ( some lads use it as a shock leader as there is little or no stretch) I use it for spinning and ledgering closer than 100yds.
