It might sound daft but im yet to take anything home and i've just got that feeling that this is the one!

I have brought fish back from down South and kepted them fresh even when it must have been like an oven in the boot, what I do is clean the fish , stuf them with dock leaves, rap them in the leaves, then cover them in foil, I dont know if it would work with mac, if I can not cook them within a couple off hours off catching them, I will not catch them for home, hope that helps

Gut them and put them into a cool box. Only wash in sea water.

The night before you go freeze some ice packs keep them in your cool box and layer them under and over your fish, that should work

tie them to the wing mirrors on your car that will keep them cool on the way home, No im joking ;D If you can, try and put your coolbox in the freezer over night the night before you go that will pre-cool the box for you, thats if you have a freezer big enough and if your box isnt the size of a small family car! ;D Ive got a small box that i sometimes take, i fill that with ice cold water and throw in some ice cubes a couple of hours before i go, by doing that your freezer blocks will last that bit longer for you, its the same principle of pre-heating your flask for a brew.

i usually take a cool box and half fill it with bags of ice cubes from asda or tesco. only cheap.(thats if i ever catch anything this year worth taking) and they last all day. ;D
