I'm spending a few days in Charmouth during mid February and want to have a go at shore fishing.Any advice on likely species venues and rigs would be gratefully accepted.I am a keen coarse fisherman but would like to broaden my horizons a little.

Hi, Charmouth is a very gently sloping storm beach where there is no deep water 300yds and 30 feet. Its reefs of soft blue lias clay run 90 degrees to shore, covered in the middle of the bay by sand, running to boulders just either side of the river, then gettingh more substantial rock outcrops to either end. Feb species are going to be tough, but on sand lug& mackeral should find thornback. Worm baits on 1/0 kamasans - you might find flounder sole plaice. Best to look at low tide to find a clean patch bordered by ledges or shingle. 3 small hook paternoster on clean - keep tugging it occasionally to free it from burying in - I'v had success with a very slow retrieve. On the rocks rottenbottom or 60lb straight through with a 30lb trace to pennel size 1 & 3o vikings. mackeral or big sandeel might find you a bull huss ,bass or strap conger. Weed can make this beach unfishable, especially in the mid section - it might pay to take a walk right to the ends of the beach to find less in the rocks ?? goodluck
