I went out in the boat yesterday - lovely day - just to get everything sorted out. No real sign of fish (no mackerel in the Solent where I was) but a nice trip. My fishing proper starts in 2 weeks or so work permitting).

Hi Guys, You are quite right there should be a greater exchange of chat....bets way of getting to know what's worth fishing and what isn't. I have been out of the water since January, but I'm going out this saturday; probably going to try Southampton Water for the Bass around Fawley Refinery. Unless someone tells me there are Mackrel beingg caught as I need to get some in the freezer for bait - hate buying bait. Good to see that Brain is still around - you stalwart :-))
I will make sure I post any results I get....if only more of us did.
Good to see that my thread I posted last year on Bass that eat chicken is still going strong !!!!

I've been out a couple of times - Wednesday last: some smoothies off the brambles up to 6lb or so. It was mid-day - just couldn't face work!
10 days ago went off Christchurch Ledge - heaps of bream. Small until the tide started running, then some good black bream to 2 1/2 lb and a couple of nice gilt-heads at 3 lb or so.
No sign of mackerel, but my trips have not had good "mackerel" tides . i go out from lymington and reckon Sconce buoy arond high tide is usual fairly guaranteed. Or around hurst point at high tide too. But I don't know much - only here a while and, as you say, its quiet!
