Hi guys, has anyone tried drift fishing for Cod off the Needles etc ??
In Scotland they drift over rough ground for Codling with great success. I have done lots of Charter trips out of Arbroath and some of the smaller ports south of Arbroath in the area down to the Firth of Forth. The boats have always drift fished and I ofetn wandered why we don't do this on the south coast .....anyone know why ??
Cheers - Murph

Don't know - tides too strong? Must be worth a try. Give it a go!

Brm, I'll give it a go, if only for an hour or so to see what happens. The trouble comes if it does work and it gets me a one-off Cod....then I'll be hooked on a system that isn't really that good a way of catching the blighters. I'm going to have to pick my day though, as you know, I need calm weather to get out there in my boat.....Santa didn't get me the bigger boat I asked for Any spots out there you would recommend...I was thinking of the deep water/banks around St Catherines Point and some of the other deep holes that are about 5-6 miles South-South East of the the Needles Murph

Hi Guys, my dad used to drift for Cod on rough ground under Fairlight cliffs, and as i remember he did quite well. But that was 30+ years ago when there were plenty of Cod about.I suppose if they are about in numbers you will catch regardless, like most species. I will also give it a bash next time i am out, and let the forum know how i got on. Robbie.
