Threw the towel in at work last week and took a few days off to get my first fishing in this year - not good I know!
Drove down from Yorkshire, and just managed to get to Tonys before closing - new headtorch and so the of the best lug Ive seen in these parts..
Popped in to Pevensey tackle too and learned that there wasnt much happening, although someone was weighing in a decent Pout when I got there. (werent any of you was it?). I was disappointed to see on the weigh-in board that no-one had registered a sole - i'd hoped there would be some about..
Spent a 5-6 hour session on pevensey beach, over high tide. Nothing. Gentle tide, no bites, great headtorch!
Next day - Langney point. Went to reccy it as Ive never been down there before.. Met a keen retired angler - Alan - who told me he was there for the day - (my kind of fisherman). Despite him dragging in a bucket full of weed, I decided to join him.
3 hours up to high tide I was still waiting for my first bite. Alan had 3 eels (next step up from crabs, in my opinion) and a pouting.
Id have settled for owt by then, but, hang on - bang bang - pick up the rod - tug tug, strike - fish on!
I towed it in carefully, expecting a decent pout to flash in the surf..
there was definately a bit of weight on..
Sole! - nice one too. Wasnt even deeply hooked. Best part of 2 lbs.. Most impressed, I can tell you. I hope Alans wife was when he served it up to her on Thursday night too!
The moral of this tail is - F*$& work off and get fishing.. Even one in 12 hours can make it all worth while.. And that doesnt include the driving..
I'll see you (and Alan) down here later in the year.
Next stop - Isle of Skye..
