What are the chances of Mersey shore caught cod at the mo? I know the boats are getting them and I know shore anglers are getting some but if I make the 100 mile trip there what are my chances of a cod of above 2lb?

Hi
We have been fishing a few times along Otterspool (Liverpool)side, and Jaguar House Not seen anything caught above 2lbs. Have only caught lots of whiting, flounder, and small Codling. People have told us of catching 5 - 6 lb cod from Jaguar House. But not seen any caught on our visits. Boat fishing is good.. try and book yourself on one of those... Good few boats offering trips some nice fish being caught...in addition to those shown on this forum.
Regards
Andy

Have seen loads of reports of codling from the shore all around the Mersey. Seems average are 2 to 2 1/2 lb and some being caught at 5 to 6lb.
Your best bet would be Mariners Wharf on the Liverpool Side with Black lug and Squid baitsbeing tops. Some decent size whiting also being caught.
I reckon that the Wirral Marks like Perch Rock and Vale Park (at low water) are also worth a try.

Ive travelled from north wales and fished perch rock quite a lot over xmas, and to my experience and the other locals ive chatted to there are only very small codling coming off there, no-one ive spoken to has heard of any sizable ones caught, doesnt mean someone wont get lucky though.

From what ive been told fresh or frozen black lug, squid and frozen crab if you can get it. only thing i can suggest is have a sift through some of the more recent threads on the forum, that might give you a better idea. martin.

Fresh lug and mackerel will do it. I spoke to a group of anglers leaving New Brighton today and they had a lot of whiting and a couple of codling.
