Hi all - I 've given a very precise update as to the position regarding the Blackpool piers on the Blackpool Piers message thread.
There is no news yet and the current leaseholders from South and Central will not know any details of the future lease for the proposed use of North Pier until both clubs provide Leisure Parcs Management with a document confirming that they will merge into one club. The Leisure Parcs Management are then only prepared to issue details of the proposed contract to the "new" club leaeholder - the individual/association who will eventually be the signatory on the Contract. Leisure Parcs only deal on a 1 2 1 basis - they will not entertain a group etc for discussions or negotiations
They are holding the two clubs to ransom so dont expect that there will be open access to North Pier - the inference is that their will be no change in what the previous arrangements were. Hopefully we may know a little more next week but dont hold your breath.
We anticipate that there will be many hurdles to climb and in no small part significant insurance implications.
We are not very optomistic at this point. When I know and can comment publically I will post a message on this site.

Article on local news says that there will be no shows in the theatre on North Pier this year, so the owners must be looking for alternative uses/income, as ever a bit suspicious about motives. Or maybe since they now know that the general public will not be on the pier, they are allowing anglers on, as flying leads and lumps of slimy worms on the floor will not cause a health and safety risk to joe public and expensive damages claims to them. Whilst under fishing club lease the pier's health and safety is likely to be be under the clubs insurance.

No concrete news yet but we are still toeing the line with Leisure Parcs and await to see what type of contract they are putting to us.

Just to keep u up2date - 6 piers co (a subsiduary of Leisure Parcs) is composing a lease - we do not know what their terms are. We are therefore no further forward than early March? Are they really interested in putting a concrete proposal on the table - lets try an be positive but the vibes are not particularly good.

Mark Zapper,
I think you are right, I read about this in the Sea Angler, there was a big article about it on a couple of the pages. It did mention health and safety as being the reason, but at the same time it also said that there is a 100% record for safety on all the piers in the past.

We have been passed a lease but it is not worth the paper it has been written on. For any angling organisation its a "no-goer". SSRA has a meeting with 6 piers management to discuss the lease and its restrictive contents on Tuesday. It does not look promising - except that they kept their word and have offered " fishing rights on North Pier."

I have got very little sympathy for the people who are now moaning about not being able to fish of the piers. These people are members of angling clubs who have had exclusive access to the south and central piers for the last few years. thousands of young lads caught their first fish from these piers, myself one of them; but since the clubs got their hands on them all the local kids cant fish from them any more. Never mind you have really done them a favour, because they have had to fish from the beaches etc, they have learned a lot more than you lot with your one mark mentallity. stop moaning and get fishing.

Dont blame the Angling Clubs blame the local council for selling off the piers - had they be public property everybody would still have equal access!!!!!!!
