Hello, i hope that somebody outhere can help, im new to sea fishing just bought my own rod & real - i dont know much about it. Went fishing twice last year at Brid (bridlington) and Exmouth - and excuse the pun - got hooked. I Live in northwest england well Leigh to be precise - I know and im not proud of that ! - but just wondered if there was anybody local who could show me how to get properly started, plaices to go or people to see etc. I have looked on previous messages and finding it really interesting. It would be very much appreciated. Many thanks Scott

Well Shorty, and other newcomers ... The weather and the fishing get better as the days go by now. Pity you're working, but hey, it pays for the gear ................ There are quite a few 'locals' who will willingly keep you company. Do you work just days / shifts whatever. Do you drive / have car. Giveuzaclue (but only give moblie#'s in a PM - not on forum). BTW ... what most 'regulars' hate, hate ,hate .... is ... I am thinking of going to the Five Bar Gate on Saturday. What time are the tides , fish high or low water, where do I get bait, is anything being caught ............................................ You get the idea ? A simple - Is anyone going to the 5bargate next Saturday. Could I meet someone there to give me a few pointers. So first questions FROM me linelineline- Have you got the TideTables and do you know how to use them ? Have you read the Venues section of this and other 'local' web sites ?

Hi Donald thanx for the advice. much appreciated - well i work shifts unfortunatley but can get time off when required (when the fishing and weather permits !) I do have my own car & can drive - well my wife wouldnt say that but who cares i get there. I am willing to take people if required. Ill take heed of them questions about who what where & how many times shud i fold loo roll for it be of a right texture for me to wipe my A*** !
The answers to your questions is : I havent got a tidetable & have got a clue where to get them from or how to use them ! sorry i know - im useless - but like i said i am willing to learn.
I have read the venue sections & found it nteresting and fun - u do all seem to be a very friendly bunch. Im on holiday now till Thursday - im going into Tackle & bait shop today in leigh to get some advice from a Chap called Terry.
Many Thanks again Donald & p.s I can cook - even BBQ ! so if im that bad you lot can fish & i'll just cook. Happy fishing Shorty

Hi Shorty, You're going to go a long way on this forum - maybe even down to Aberystwyth :-) On the Main web page is a link to Tidal Predictions. = www.nwsa.ukf.net/If you point and click on a town name like Liverpool you go to a weekly table. = www.pol.ac.uk/ntslf/tides/?port=0234If you need to go further ahead in time - next week or more - then you need either a PC program or the Lavers booklet. More about them later. If you look at the chart at the bottom of the page. The top of the 'wobbles' (red crosses) shows the time and height of the high water (top of the beach). The bottom of the chart show how far out the tide goes out. We will start a new thread in the "Shore Angling Advice (not venue related)" forum later. So put your questions / answers into that one. PS I have some excellent books on origami thank you .............. My mind uses my watercraft skills and knowledge to plan most of my trips - I don't get it right all the time - but I, like others, get a fair percentage 'hit rate' doing it that way round. Just fancying a place to go - then getting others to convince yourself that it 'is the right place' to go ........................ seems as good a plan as which pub is the best to get blathered in. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
