Hi all I use bearing buddies on my trailer wheels ( a brilliant spring loaded device that constantly forces grease into the wheel hubs thus keeping saltwater out).
Trouble is they stick out from the wheel hubs by about 3inches. This makes it very hard to fit most types of security clamp. The ones with a single arm that fit over a wheel nut will sort of fit but I always worry about the security of this type of clamp.
Removing the bearing buddies is not really an option as this is rather a tricky procedure that takes quiet a while to carry out.
Does anybody know of a clamp out there that will fit over these things? David

I had this problem with my sailing boat. What I did was get an eye bolt welded to my wheel hub and one on the trailer body then I just used a crook lock through them.

The ones with a single arm that fit over a wheel nut will sort of fit but I always worry about the security of this type of clamp. I presume you mean the "SAS" type. I don't think security is a problem so long as you do them up tight (so they grip on the wheel rim). certainly my insruance company reckon they are OK. Had someone try to steal my boat (on trailer) with the clamp on - they got a couple of yards up the road and the tyre got ripped off the rim. Net result: unhook and drive off (me following - car chase!). So without trying to tempt people to knoick me boat, I think they are OK.

Hi, Ever thought about a Hitchlock ??, you can get one with a naff padlock for around a tenner, just change the padlock to something a bit heftier, our local cash n carry does them the for the best price, dont go to caravan shops or halfords....unless you want to pay double that . Bob.

It seems to me that no matter what locking device you have some horrible b*st*rd will steal it if they want it that badly. My best advice would be make sure your insurance is paid up,and just make it as hard to steal as possible.

I bought a wheelock for my trailer from Halfords which clamps round the tyre and the edge of the wheel rim, its fully adjustable and would fit any size or shape of wheel but it cost 80 quid. another cheaper idea is to drill hole through your trailer hitch and snap a padlock through it to stop it dropping onto a towbar. Hope that helps.
