hello all its a good idea for us all to help the coast guard if we should need them if we loose our yaks by falling in or if we end up drowning ourselves or knocking ourselves out we need a way to let the coastguard know who we are and contact numbers . I have found the best way to do this is with tags the tags are made out of the small clear plastic keyrings the type you put photos in they should be sealed with a small drop of silicone inside this makes them waterproof they should be attached to our yaks and to your pfd .they should contain : name /address/contact number/and car reg / they are only a small thing but will make the difference to the coast guard should he need to help us.what do you think

Great idea. Not sure I share your confidence about the coast guard though. I used to moor my boat at Holyhead and filled in a long form at the coastguard all about colour of boat, name, VHF name, my home tel N0 etc etc Total waste of time as I found out when my boat came off its mooring in a force 9 gale. Some locals in Church Bay notified the coastguard that a red and blue angling boat was getting thrown around by waves and then they reported it sinking and then that it crashed on the rocks. Coastguard never did anything to save it or contact me and I only found out about it when I stumbled on the boat 3 weeks later and locals told me all about it. Fair credit to the locals as the VHF, Fishfinder, engines etc were all there (not stolen). It was awful getting to the marina and finding my boat gone and it was nearly a month later when I quite literally stumbled on it at Church Bay when shore angling. All I can say about the coastguard is thank God I wasn't actually in the boat when locals were reporting it in trouble!!!!!!!!!!! Having said all that, the tags are an excellent idea as locals or police can phone our loved ones and they can take it from there. I want one!
