Do any kayakers have a VHF to talk to the safety boat?

I will be bringing y VHF with me to the meet. I recommend that everyone invests in a VHF as most cliffs stop mobile phone signals.

Thanks for that Tribble. Can you kill the cap lock when you next post though. I had to retype all of your post.

Do you used fixed sets or handheld? What's the range like with a set as low to the water as a kayak?

Mine is hand held so i carry my phone with me in a water Prof bag just in case, In the summer if the signal is low you can always do a message relay if there are plenty of boats around but in the winter that is not as easy. but saying that holly head can usually hear me.

Hello guys I use an icom euro v hand held I can get the coast guard anywhere on Anglesey with it A good guide is roughly I watt equals 1 mile I have spoken to the Holyhead and Liverpool coastguard many times from colwyn bay with no problems I have it attached to my pfd so that if I fall in and cant get back to my yak then I have a means of contact with me and not fixed to the yak .the one I use is waterproof so I don’t use any covers I have found that the waterproof covers also muffle the sound and make it hard for the coast guard to understand me.
