Pity you just missed the kayak meet. You could have had a try out and met lots of kayakers. Don't know of any clubs but the kayakers on here are very helpful to newbies. Buy yourself a kayak and get out with someone. Lots on here'll be plesed to join you.

Hiya,
Do you know of anybody in the north east of england that does kayak fishing? I am South African and did a lot of 'Kayak fishing' as you call it. Quite naively, I did not realise it existed here. I am keen to get into it but as you could probably guess the conditions here are a little different to what I am used to so would like to talk to someone. I now live in Newcastle and can't seem to find someone local. If you have any advice for me it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi mudfox, im looking at getting a kayak fo the spring/summer, i have a shortlist of two. if your looking to buy one take a look at www.devadirect.com they are part of deva marine at pentraeth on anglesey. i called in today, the prices on the website are lots cheaper than the shop.

Anglesey isn't on the Northeast coast though Martin and he did stress he wants somewhere local (that's local to Newcastle).

Sorry Martin. My mistake. What kayaks did Diva have on show? Did he have a large stock? I might be in the market for a Frenzy next I think.

I managed to see a couple of the malibu two's but the rest im unsure about. they had about 6 to 8 kayaks there all kind of piled into the corner. Deva's shop on conwy marina had a small surf kayak there with paddle for about £230. Also theres north wales boat centre in llandudno junction, they do a range of pyrana ( excuse the spelling on that one!) sea kayaks (surfy types) but sadly they dont do the angling kayaks.

Yep, I'm willing to get a Malibu 2 and a Loko there. I have a great little kayaker who'll give a demonstration of the Loko.

Hello georgieB the extra flotation bars I had on my yak were made from a swimming pool noodle and 2 bungee cords through the middle of them they were clipped on to the carry handle and the rope rigging on the yak the total cost was £10.00 for the pair .on the day we met up I didn’t fancy trying to tip myself up to test them but have since been to a local pond and had 2 people sitting on the side of my yak and still we could not tip it up I thought that by mounting them a little higher than is recommended(on the waterline) they would not create any drag when paddling so would not hamper speed I also found that they do not get in the way of paddling at all .I have found that the greatest danger of tipping up your kayak while out fishing is when you turn around and are getting things from behind out of your crate and the idea of the extra flotation was to try to add some kind of extra stability while you are doing this and I can say it worked great even made standing up in a prowler a lot easier . there is an extra bonus with them as well in the past I have found in practice that if someone grabs on to the side of your yak like in a rescue situation you would usually tip up but with the extra flotation my mate was able to hold on to the side of my yak and I could paddle the yak inshore with out any problem or danger of capsize all be it slowly so I would say a success and will continue to use them. terry

About a mile n quarter from Dinas beach to the southwest is the reef which is full of fish. I can give GPS co-ords for those who want them, if there are no boats already there LOL. Almost straight out from the hotel is a good spot for huss. There are quite a few other 'spots' of interest for those who would lke them ........

Thanks for that Zebra. I'm going to follow your lead. My daughter is in Flint Swimming Club so I can order the flotation bars. I have also thought of other things that could be employed for similar purposes. Will keep you posted of my ideas and let you know if I get to put them into practise. Cheers Terry.
