ive found a handy roofrack, probably better for smaller kayaks, but you strap it to the top of your car through the doors and then you inflate it. it all rolls up and stores in a little bag in your boot. have a look on www.handirack.com, ive got one, really usefull, and it will hold up to 80kgs. I got it because im a fussy git and dont want a rack permanently stuck to my car!!

Those pump up ones look very good - but - I can't work out what I do with my 3 door car to fix them on it ? ? ? - Someone at the meet mentioned that "lifting" up the canoe to roof height was the problem - not the actual rack style. I copied that design for a work colleage. The bars extend sideways, then you lower one end, shove the boat up, then reverse the proceedure. quite simple to make from DIY (you know who) bits.

yeah good point, i didnt think of that, my car has 5 doors. and must admit the rack has been quite handy so far, i will have to see how it will fair with a kayak on top, may need to get a more permanent one.

Be careful with the inflatable racks they are really designed for carrying surfboards, you may end up with a parallel pair of dents in your roof depending on the strength of your car's roof. The kari-tek looks fantastic and being vertically challenged could help when loading on my van, save me wobbling up a step-ladder with the kayak on my head SM
