Hi everyone. Can you give me some idea about techniques for anchoring in a kayak? For example, in a decent tide how much/what type of weight (on average) is needed how do you perform a safe anchor retrieval in a current? Also, has anyone drifted through the Menai Straits in a kayak and lived?! Cheers Dave

I have a spool full of 6mm rope which slots into a small bucket in front of me this stops it from unraveling. The anchor rope passes through a D shackle i have fitted to the end of my kayak then it passes through another rope with a loop in it which i attatch to my carrying handle, to retreve the anchor just pull the rope attatched to you carrying handle and let it float away until you retreve your anchor then when you wind the rope back onto the spool there is no weight on the rope. For an anchor i use a sash weight about 8lb even in a very strong tide it will hold you. I have used the proper ones and lost them all, i have yet to loose my sash weight. I usually carry a minimum of 150m and a spare sash weight just incase i have to cut free i will have enough to re-anchor with
