Hi all, Whats the second hand market like on kayaks or is it safer to go for new. What should I be looking for as a basic starting point and what should I avoid or look out for. I spoke to a chap down at Borth before christmas who pointed me towards anglers afloat website. Seems an interesting alternative to the shore. Would value a bit of advice....... Cheers

Hi DDD, I think I may have been who you spoke to down at Borth and in CHL in Aber before Christmas. Thought you might come around to getting a Yak when we spoke Second hand yaks are like rocking horse doo dah and they tend to keep a high resale value, so I think you will probably be buying new unless your very lucky to drop on one. There has been a Prowler 13 this week on E- Bay that was posted on the Anglers Net Forum but I don't know if it has gone yet, may be worth a look. Beware though of a bad batch of Prowler 13s that came into the country last year with leaky scuppers. There don't seem to be any dealers around Aber that keep a good stock of Yaks, so you will probably have to travel to see some in the flesh. If you are back up in Staffs at all, it may be worth a trip to West Midland Canoe Centre, near Walsall. They are very helpful and will put you straight or try and meet up with some of the lads on here at one of the meets and have a ganders at their kayaks. Stuart.

I stared at the e-bay auctions for weeks and it became clear that all the sit on kayaks sell 2nd hand for about £40 cheaper than the new ones so it's not worth taking the risk with 2nd hand, after all if there's something wrong with a new one you take it straight back but you've got problems with 2nd hand ones. Just not worth the risk for £40. Now if they were £100 cheaper, that'd be a different story but they keep their price.

Hi ddd, I have been out a few times lately. One trip from Aber, 3 weeks ago on a bitterly cold but calm day fishing half a mile off the harbour mouth and catching just one small whiting. A trip to the Dyfi with Zulu off this forum and a couple of other yakkers that was a complete blank with baited spoon and fly rod. I've also had a couple of days Piking on Llangorse Lake near Brecon, catching a few to about 10lb on lures. I am thinking of coming down soon, possibly this weekend. Are you going fishing this w/e? If you want to try the yak just say, and we'll see what we can sort out. i22.photobucket.com/albums/b349/nifty2/pike016.jpg i22.photobucket.com/albums/b349/nifty2/pike013.jpg Stuart.

Cheers Glyn, I had tried that way but when I previewed them there didn't appear to be anything there so opted for the link to be sure. Not very clever with this technology stuff, in fact not very clever Stuart.
