spent all afternoon finishing off my anchor system, and ive started my fishfinder, photos of that will follow soon! after a lot of trial and error it all came together! both pulleys front and rear are on a piece of elasticated cord i think it was zebras kayak that i saw where to fit my cleat, on the right hand side in a small crevice, easy to get to if i have to cut it in an emergency! I ran the top pulley line through the existing guides already fitted to the kayak, keeps it tidy and tucked away if anyone has any sugestions or comments on how ive set it up (just incase ive rigged it wrong) fill yer boots, let me know lets go fishing! ;D ;D

dont tell me you've got an underwater minicam off e-bay cheap, £5, you've fixed it and bolted it to your anchor and changed your fishfinder for a 28" plasma telly ;D ;D ;D

hi martinw can you please tell where did you buy the pulleys from, and did you just use normal self tappers for the cleat, thanks terry. I have been looking for an anchor system that is easy to use and yours looks the part,

hi terry, it realy is simple to set up, i got the pulleys from a local chandlers for £5 each, and the self tappers were stainless steel again from the local chandlers, i try and buy things like that from the chandlers because you know it the right stuff and will stand the test of the salt water, if you need to know more terry just ask or pm me and ill be more than happy to help.
all the best, martin.

ask as many questions as you like terry!. i got the line for the anchor from B&Q, cost about £7 for about 50m of white 4mm cord on a blue handline type holder. i attached the anchor chain to the bottom of the anchor using a small 'd' shackle, then ran the chain up the shaft of the anchor and attached the chain to the top anchor loop or eye with a small zip tie to create a weak link incase the anchor snaggs, if you want i can post a close up pic of that set up. martin

Hi, Martin, thanks for getting back to me so fast, would like to see a few more pic,s. Going shopping today for the parts, last season I spend more time going backwards and paddling back to position then fishing, so this year I am fitting an anchor system and have a drift sock also. terry

hi terry, heres some more pics for you so you know what you will need today this is the anchor set up as explained previously this is the line used for the anchor on the handline holder, next to where ive mounted my cleat this is where ive mounted the rear pulley, just behind the sitting position. and this is the front pulley with the anchor in the forward/bow position. note the elastic cord on the pulleys, you will need that to give you some give to open and detach your pulley line from the carabiner the anchor line runs through, it will also give you some shock absorbsion while you are anchored. stuff you will need - 1.5kg anchor - 1m of galvanized chain - small d-shakle - small zip tie - hand line for anchor line B&Q. - small cleat and sef tappers to mount - 2x pulleys - about 6-7m 4mm cord for pulley line - small lenth of elastic cord - 1x stainless carabiner dont think ive forgotten anything there, hope that all helps, happy shopping!! all the best martin

Thanks martin, for taking time out to place pic,s on site. Went shopping today for parts, but went for nuts and bolts for the job not self tappers which may pull out under load. Apart from that ready to go. thanks terry

A few potential problems possibly with this set up! firstly as is pointed out the use of self tapping screws is a bit risky. I would also remove the existing bungee cords to prevent tangles and only thread the trolley rope through one fixing , it should run better. Suppose you could also scale down the size of pulleys a little but you'll only know once out on the water. but if it works for you its not a problem.

im just going to see how i go with it, zebra's used self tappers on his and he's had no problems so far, if i had arms like a spinning rod id be able to get in there and put a bolt in ;D, i suppose its all trial and error, thanks for your points though hursty, its good to someones willing to pipe up and advise where i might have gone wrong. i'll let you know how i get on tomorrow cheers, martin

not sure about this martin but does that pully system need somthink to to hold it in place i.e to stop the carrabina moving backwards which would result in the kayak being held side on just a thought !!

hi martin Ive got the same set up but one difference Ive got grip wheels to holed the anchor rope and you will be OK with the pulley not moving it acts just like a small boat the boat moves a round the anchor and the bungee rope help to take any strain of the cleat that holds the anchor rope the system works well i tried it at benllech but you already know all this job well done ;D

hi alan it just stays there does not move up or down under stress. i have used selftappers for years on my yaks and never had a problem how much force do you think a small anchor and yak will put on a cleat not enought to pull out the self tappers i can tell you .so why is using selftappers risky?? in an ideal world we would all be using well nuts or something like them but its not an ideal world .i bet no body has ever actually seen a self tapper pull out of a yak .

As I said if it works for you its not a problem. Its not that difficult on the prowler to put the cleat on with nuts/bolts but it does need 2 and you need to tape the socket to a handle to get in there! Important bit of kit is the anchor , not just for fishing but to be deployed in an emergency such as if your injured/ill. Another thing to consider is how to quickly you can detatch from the anchor , my preference being to use a camcleat to lock off , and another cleat at the rear (using one of the strap eyes sockets) to lock off the trolley. Each to their own!!

there was quite a swell off pensarn yesterday, deployed the anchor and it hed a treat, the elastic cord worked really well as a shock absorber and took away a lot of the strain, so the cleat was under hardly any pressure at all. i tucked the top pulley line under the cleat and that stopped any movement forwards or backwards.
happy! no adjustments needed ;D

Hi Mw, Thanks for asking, I have fitted the system, and it works fine, I took it down the local cannel for a test. I went for nuts and bolts for the cleat system bit. Next is the fish finder, I have had a scotty bar system send from the states with a fish finder fitting, But the place for mouthing the scotty system on the P15 is just to far away, both for me to read the fish finder and to use the rod rest with ease, So I have had to order a mount that will allow me to place the system closer to me, need to wait around 10 days for the post, which is a pain. Apart from that alls ok, and your pic,s helped me alot. Tell me where do you old boys fish from, is it only north wales??? terry

sounds like its coming along a treat! yeah we fish all around the north wales coast, we are lucky here we can go anywhere whatever the does we can get out of it, you just have to keep an eye on the offshore winds. glad to hear the pics helped, you will have to post some pics of your set up. where are you based terry? martin
