Today, georgieb, the image and myself, oh and not forgetting Melissa and ffion! descended on the inland sea in Holyhead in the hope of some good fishing, but however as usual the kayakers blanked we had the baits, fresh black lug and sandeel and mackerel, but not a sniff, but we soon came to realize that the sea bed was covered in all sorts of shellfish, so killer baits would probably be peeler, mussel and the likes, we know for next time!! in most parts the water was only between 1 and 3ft deep, i think the deepest was about 15 ft! ideal place for a surface lure, if you know what i mean . with the fishing being non existence, the rest of the day consisted of paddling round checking the place out for a future kayak meet, the only down side was the parking, we unloaded the yaks on a small slip and then had to park a couple of hundred meters up the road. here are the yaks ready to go, note the mall slip on the left, enough room for 3 cars to unload. Glyn and Melissa were ready to rock and roll! Georgie having a reet ol smile for the camera! while Glyn and Melissa were paddling George and myself pulled up on a small island for a brew and a butty. all in all it was a cracking day, we all paddled somewhere new to us, i managed to stay dry ;D, the weather was kind to us too, although the forecast said rain, the sun came out, and the location was well sheltered from the wind. look forward to more pics of the day when Glyn packs away his tent and speeds home to log on!! tight lines, martin.

How far down did you go? All the way to Cwmyran beach?
Also, when it's too windy for kayaking - I go windsurfing on the Inland Sea, the other side of the bridge to where you launched. The launching of kayaks and windsurfers is quite civilised here. You turn left (going towards Valley from the bridge) at the first farm track, pay Mr Parry - the farmer £2 for the use of his field and set up in comfort, on grass. It's all of 10yds to the water and there are loos on site too.

we didn't go that far we just had a paddle around and a bit of a fish. we launched at the 4 mile bridge and we headed up towards trearddur first, only about a mile up. we then came back down towards the bridge and through the little tunnel then paddled the other side up towards the aluminum plant and the A55 bridge (i think it is!). The wind picked up a bit and the paddling was hard work on the way back. The whole place was new to us all, was good to just get a feel for the place for next time. Thanks for the tip on parking, i will go for a recce there to find the parking, that would be handy and put to bed our worries of where to park if we had a meet there. is it not dodgy if you fall off there windsurfing with it being only the best part of 3 feet deep in most parts?? Thanks again for that heads up sh, will you be joining us on the next meet? all the best, martin

I'd love to join you all on meets, just a case of dragging my XL kayak crew away from South Stack kitchen and both of us getting a pass out!
The shallow water is the main reason we windsurf there. If you come off, you just stand on the bottom, compose yourself and get back on again. The only problem is you can only windsurf there on spring tides (>8.5m @ Liverpool). The same goes for a great little kayak excursion round to the Beach Hotel golf course at Trearddur.
As you paddled towards the A55 from Four Mile Bridge, you would have crossed the first area of open water and then gone through a narrowing before coming out on the larger area of open water with a small island on your left and an area of spikey rocks on your right.
If you had turned right angles left just before the island on your left, you would have spotted a narrow gorge through steep sided rocks straight ahead. Following this to a fork and going left you can follow this channel right up to the edge of the golf course. At times you would be paddling in 4" to 6" of water and nearer to the golf course you should be surrounded by mullet swirling on the surface. I've tried flies and lures, but never caught one. If it were accessible by land I would be tempted to lob a few loaves of bread in and go back and try bait!!
Cheers
Steve
