Hi, I had a trial run this morning. Set off from the beach at apx 3.45am. Still dark but mainland silhouetted. I need to read instructions on how to dim the fish finder as it was too bright on the front of the kayak. Lovely paddle out, but disappointed to find it a little too rough on the other side to fish. Guess we're at the mercy of the wind direction. So just had a good paddle round, took some photos (they're lightened so qualities dropped). This week was a very low tide so lots of kelp showing, next weeks not so low. Managed to get out onto one of the little islands to stretch the legs. John weather for next sat. getting better Sat 0:00 8 °c 7 °c 1,484 m 0 mm 55 % 4 mph 3:00 7 °c 7 °c 1,397 m 0 mm 9 % 2 mph 6:00 7 °c 9 °c 1,348 m 0 mm 12 % 2 mph 9:00 12 °c 13 °c 1,357 m 0 mm 1 % 1 mph 12:00 12 °c 11 °c 1,477 m 0 mm 8 % 4 mph 15:00 12 °c 11 °c 1,631 m 0 mm 84 % 4 mph 18:00 12 °c 11 °c 1,728 m 0 mm 86 % 1 mph 21:00 9 °c 10 °c 1,670 m 0 mm 100 % 1 mph

Will the tide be with us or against us on the outward leg?

Hi Glyn The wind is the pain as the tidal flow isn't bad so long as you stay inside the small island as you go around the point
I haven't got a plan B for the morning yet as if it is too windy for this then it'll be too windy for much else that's save. The Menai is protected from the winds but I think the tidal flow is too fast for the dark.
Anyone any suggestions for a plan B ?? John

Hi John You'd make a good politician! You never answered my question Will the tide (good or bad, strong or weak, problem or no problem) be with us or against us? A bit early to be worrying about the weather. Those long range forecasts have the same ratio for being right as Gypsy Loo at the church fete! A good plan 'B' though would be a trip to Holyhead. Sheltered by the breakwater. Radio contact with the coastguard. Some big pollock there this time of year and good chance of ling and strap conger. A good slipway as well.

Reason I ask about tide is to work out if Melissa can cope?

If she is with you then yes, but not on her own. There is a small area just around the point were the tide is a Little faster

Thanks John. If there's any probs, I can always just cut into shore! Melissa is looking forward to it. Will you be taking your double with Sarah in it?

Those kelp pictures remind me of a man at Amwlch who swears by boiled kelp with a dash of lemon for breakfast every morning.
Ref dimming the fishfinder, someone once told me that a bit of ladies tights will do it.
