If you had to choose a second kayak (not necessarily fishing one) for kids and family to use, what would it be? I must admit I would welcome one of my kids to take this up and think they would enjoy a resevior session with me. I am looking at the Ocean Frenzy but whats your thoughts? Please remember this would just be a second play type yak.

The first thing on my list would be something light, maybe something from the Venus range or maybe a yakboard or Wilderness Kaos so that you can play in the surf if the surf is up and the family are at home. If you want to go out as a family then a Malibu II XL or a boat SM

Hi Ian It much depends on what you want the second yak for if its to take out a second person with you to fish wait until the mini-x is here and have a look at it before you make up your mind from what I have hared it is a 9ft version of the x-factor and so has all the stability of its big brother I have just spoken to Stuart and he is expecting it in the next 3 weeks he was not sure of the price just yet but felt sure it would not be expensive I have been promised first test in it when it arrives so will let you know what it is like I plan to take my son Jason so I can get a view from his eyes he is 8 yrs old and we should be able to gauge from how he gets on with it as to how easy it is to paddle and manuver .having just read what I have written I should be on commission ??

That sounds very interesting and I will watch for the photos and write up. Its really something for the children to use and grow into. They really enjoyed the kayaking and I think it will do them good to take up a hobby like this. There are many adventure clubs based around here that they could join. They have bikes and everything else but have you ever tried to drag a child away from the playstation?? The frenzy appears to be one that will cope with coastal waters as well as surf play and flat waters. I will have to raid their piggy banks so budget will be tight.

hi Gilbo, ive got a Prowler 13 as my fishing kayak and soon after i got myself the ocean kayak yak board, i got that for messing about in the surf when its too choppy for the p13, ive had some right laughs on it, its amazing in the surf, light to paddle and it will turn on a penny, the only thing is that if you got one you would need to put some carrying handles on it. i think the only down side is that its hard to keep in a straight line over any long distance, but i only use it in the surf so that doesnt matter to me. Ive also had a go in georgieb's frenzy, couldnt make my mind up on that one, fonund that when you sat in it i found it a bit restricted for space, but on the other hand it paddled well, turned well and was a little better for going in a straight line, oh and the frenzy is a bit easier to get back into if you fall out, the yak board is that light its a bit of a struggle in deep water, but usually if you come off in the surf the yak is washed up on dry land way before you are so you just get on and off you go again ;D Thats whats good about our meets up here, we get the chance to have a paddle in the vast array of different yaks that everyones got, is there any where down there that will give you the loan of a couple of yaks to try? its a lot of cash to shell out if you dont get it right. At the end of the day it depends on what you want to do with it, if you want a small surf yak that you can use in the surf and one your kids can use when your not, like the yak board or frenzy, or whether you want something that you can paddle together, like starvinmarvin sugested, the ocean kayak malibu2 decisions, decisions!! let us know what how you get on, the adrenalin rush you get when you get the big wave is second to none!!! ;D happy hunting martin
