having wet a line on the yak today at moelfre ive had an idea for a meet. On Sunday the 13th august, meet at moelfre in the morning, park in the cafe car park, launch the yaks and fish up and over high water which is 1359 in the book, after a couple of hours after high come in, pack up and talk about it all over a pint and a bar meal in the pub on the front in moelfre (cant remember the name of it). For those that have never been there i think georgeb took some pics of the surrounding areas today, the parking, launch site and the pub i think. let me know what you think guy's because if we get weather like we did today it will be a cracker

Can i also recommend this choice of venue for martins proposal for a forum meet . Just as he said i did take a few pics for those who may not know the area. There is a carpark right on the launch site, but we would need to meet there fairly early to take advantage of that as we did today. There is plenty of other parking nearby. A cafe is on the carpark, a pub/restraunt 50m from that. There is fairly deep water within a short distance from shore. At high water heading N/NE the shoreline is rocky, or sheer stone slope/small cliffs into the water, ocassional stoney beach odd places to land, after a 200m +stretch of water leads to moelfre island where you can rest and fish from shore here for a while if that is your wish- or explore the surrounding area. Lots of potential (have to reserve details). The location www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=53.3565&lon=-4.2304&scale=25000&icon=x The carpark The launch site Yr Ynys Moelfre ( moelfre Island) and when we have finshed- The Pub

Just to add to the reports buy George and martin The gathering on Sunday at moelfre was a great success the fish caught on the day was conger eel .mackerel .red gurnard .it is an ideal location with both deep and shallow areas to fish and play about during the day we had plenty of time to practice many safety techniques including re-entry towing another yak rescuing a man in the water we even had time to rig up a stirrup re-entry .it was a great meet we all learned many things inc martin standing up in his kayak for the first time . thanks for a great day guys .

I think for this next meet i will put a reflective flag on my yak like george and terry have. on the sunday the weather was cracking and that brings out the idiots on fast boats ans jet skis. You did feel a bit vunerable out there on you yak having fast boats and the like tearing passed you, some were too close for comfort! I think most of these were sunday boaters that dont get out offten and dont have much regard for other sea users, and if the weathers the same for the next meet, they wiil be out in force again!!. i had one bloke drift past me in a large rib really close when my anchor was snagged, i couldnt move and his engine was off if he'd have hit me god knows what would have happened.
Anyway, something to think about dont you think??
