Having limited my kayaking to the Inland Sea - Four Mile Bridge and fishing off Trearddur - apart from the New Year's Day trip - time to explore further. Launched by the Grey House on the headland, Trearddur Bay on Saturday. Paddled across the bay and round Raven's Point though scores of jet ski and powerboat wakes and into the relative quiet of Lilypond Bay. This took about half an hour, so we stopped for a bit of fishing, but only a few gurnard around. Carried on around the craggy headlands and coastline, where when the water shallowed the tide run made for a bumpy ride for a few yards. (Big spring tide not ideal for this trip, but it was such a nice day! Planned it to be around slack water onto a fair tide for this reason). As we approached Rhoscolyn Head we were joined by a seal for a few minutes. Carried on a few hundred yards and drifted around fishing with ragworm, only caught wrasse - but up to 6lb. With tea time approaching carried on to land at Rhoscolyn Beach and trollied the yak upto the White Eagle car park, where we stripped it and ourselves down over a pint and loaded the yak on the roofrack of the car so generously driven there by the wives (cost us a meal in the pub, mind). In all probably only just over an hours continuous paddling with three hours fishing.
