Today was one of those days when i woke up and new it was going to be different. For a while i have been toying with the idea of buying a small sit on top for surfing and re-con fishing trips. The problem i have is i don't own a garage so relying on Dave (tribble) to store my Prowler, the other is i have a two door ford Escort and to buy a roof-rack would cost as half as much as the car and getting them second hand is like finding rocking horse Pooh, again Dave to the rescue.
The two yaks i had in mind were Ocean Kayaks Frenzy and Yak Board. The frenzy being my first choice i folded down the rear seats, reclined the front passenger seat and removed the head rest, all systems go. I pushed the Frenzy as far up as possible to the windscreen, as i looked down to the rear of the yak it was over the seal of the hatch by about 8 inches. I think it had something to do with the thickness of the boat being some what deeper than the Yak Board, cant tell you how gutted i was but as i told Ray of Victoria Pier Angling " I'm not leaving with out a boat".
I put the Frenzy back on its rack, picked up the Yak Board and repeated the loading process this time it cleared the seal and the hatch closed.
This being a spare of the moment thing i didn't have time to get anyone to go with me but with boys and their new toys i couldn't resist, i tried it out at Llandudno and was pleased with the Yak Boards performance despite no real waves to speak of, so no on the water shots.
