I have just recently brought a Malibu 2 XL and after going out around Llandudno and Colwyn Bay catching Mackeral I would like some advice on what parts I require to make an anchor pulley system so i can try bait fishing in the rough grounds. Any pictures or advice would be very much appreciated. Many Thanks Andy

Malibu,
Not too 'clued up' on the Malibu's original set up, but basic parts are: 2X pulleys (do not have to be the most expensive type - but I suggest that you don't buy the cheapest things going - nor the most expensive); 1X Caribeener (fancy clip thing - for ease of use); 1X stainless steel (or strong plastic) ring; Elasticated rope (bungee cord) - for tying to the eye-lets (if available??) towards the front and back of the boat; Piece of rope (thin enough to fit through the eye-lets). If eye-lets aren't already there then you are going to have to install some. Self tappers, with a bit of silicone, should do the job.
There is a step-by-step article somewhere; I think its on the anglersnet forum.
Good luck. Steve

Yeh try www.anglersafloat.co.uk web site, all on there. Just a note, I recently replaced a pulley, with a larger stainless steel one. First time I used it the knot jammed in it, so had to put a bung on to stop it. Worth checking cos I couldn't anchor from that end & had waves being inconsiderate for a few hours. Also at first I thought that just achoring from the stern would be fine (what's the point of all the hassle of doing the bow as well?). It definately worth it - not particularly cos of fishing into or down the tide. More because the yak definately sits better facing the waves when it's a bit choppy. That could be either depending on the wind or tide. May as well add another thought, I originally fixed the elasticated shock absorbers by threading a loop of elastic thro the eyelet and tying the ends (the knot kept it in place). Had that pulled out when in a strong tide, at the time it felt a bit hairy and I cut the trolley off - luckerly I cut the right end & kept the bits. On the prowlers I don't think it's an issue it looks like a tighter fit. I'd had to put an eyelet on myself, got a Malibu. Now I've put one end of the loop through and tied it off. With the Malibu you'll have to experiment with the eyelets to the bow, otherwise you get a rope pulled in by the elastic. Let me know if you want any pics.

With the AnglersAfloat Malibu II XL project I'm working on a different method of tying off the anchor, mainly because of the hull shape and also because I don't want a rope running the length of the kayak that could tangle up the kids if we take a spill. As I'm nearly always sat in the rear of the kayak I'm thinking of fitting one of these on each side of the rear quarter, main problem is finding a source for them that isn't going to charge $30 for postage. www.shootnhunt.com/catalog/JM/marine_hardware_and_cleats/stearns_manufacturing/6501848.htmlArtfulfisher has them fitted to his OK Malibu II and reckons they are the business.
