Its all about line-lay. Look no further that the upper end Shimanos. Mind you a £40 Shimano might be OK, but I'd want a recommendation 1st.

use a shimano bait runner myself and they are brilliant £80 and one will last you for years. Go down to mals at beaumaris and you mite get a deal on one. If £80 is to much then the abu cardinals are worth a look not to sure but reckon you could pick a decent abu up for around £40 again from malcs (but i think that ray on the pier mite have some abus in as well)

There are two types of reel.
1. Those you buy to last for a two week holiday.
2. Those you intend fishing with.
Spend every penny you can on your reels. They will, if looked after and serviced annually, last a lifetime. This gives you maximum value for you money and maximum fishing pleasure.
As to types line SEA reels for SALTwater -- Others for FRESHwater !!!
As style and size - use the respective manufacturers guides.
As to manufactures / make -- who ever you believe !
AGAIN - SPEND you pennies ... whatever the cost ... you WILL get it back ..............
Fish of a lifetime = best reel you can own ...........................

I've tried different reels over the 20 years for spinning. 1, Cheap reels dont last, some thing will go wrong with them at some time. 2, Baitrunners are ok but after a few dunks in sea water they will start to play up. Too many things inside a baitrunner to go wrong. 3, A good front drag reel is the way to go, less to go wrong with a front drag reel if it gets a dunking. Harpoon is correct in saying the upper end of the Shimano reel selection, thats what i use. I've not seen any posting from Harpoon of late, anyone know where he is.
