It's obvious that some people on here are new to lure fishing and it must all be rather confusing. Spinners, jellies, plugs, spoons, feathers, where? when? etc. Here is a few tips..... When do you use spinners? When you need distance, When you cast against the wind, When the fish are deeper, When fish are chasing bait fish, When you need to retrieve fast, Which spinners should I use? Ones that look like bait fish, sandeels, whitebait, etc, Ones that are the right size for the fish you are after, Ones that are the right weight for the rod, reel and line you use Which spinner for which fish? Any spinner up to say 4" is ideal for Mackerel, Garfish, Pollack, School Bass, Coalfish, similar to these.. If you want bigger Bass and Pollack then you need bigger spinners like these You will still get Mackerel etc on them but use them to target the bigger fish, or to gain that extra distance. Spinners are usually used off rocks or into deeper water but don't be afraid to use them in the surf or over sand.

Get yourself the small size Dexter Wedges. They cast like a bullet.Have a lovely fluttering action and you can cover a lot of area with them.

Some cheap spoons that come with kids fishing sets work well but check the links and joints. Dont be afraid to try anything even home made, if its cheap then it will not be a loss if you get it stuck on weed etc. it will cost a lot while learning and loosing a few so use the cheap ones when unsure of the conditions until you gain the experiance or know the water you are fishing. Nothing will wee you off more than the new expensive lure that gets stuck and lost on the first cast..... trust me I know
