First serious plugging trip of the season... First plug caught Silvery one... First sighting of Bottlenose dolphins from the shore (for me) Can't be bad eh? Plug was a J-11 floating jointed rapala in silver/black fished behind swell breaking on to rocks. Fish was returned unhamed. Length was 22", anyone care to hazard a guess at the weight?

fairly precise guess Gilbo. What are you basing it on? Is there a way to acurately calculate weight from length?

Only a guide I would have thought. Some are long, some are fat and short and some are thin. ;D Bass that is. What did you put the weight at? Looking at it again it might be a bit heavier. Would say most fish of about 18" (Cornish Min Size) are about 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 lb. Thats why I said 3 1/4.

My guess was between 3 and 3 1/2, so about the same. Does anyone know if there is a more acurate way of doing it?

John Good to see the Bass are about well done Went out last night on the straights but only one small Pollock. Algae bloom has started in the straights so I expect the fishing with lures and fly to drop off until mid June. With regards to weight length got the following from the BASS web site at ukbass.com/fishingbits/weightforit.html suggest you read the complete article NB - measurements taken from snout to fork in the tail] Fork length (ins) Peter weight (lb) Dave weight (lb) 16 1.7 1.8 17 2.1 2.1 18 2.5 2.5 19 2.9 2.9 20 3.4 3.4 21 3.9 3.9 22 4.5 4.5 23 5.1 5.1 24 5.8 5.8 25 6.6 6.5 26 7.4 7.2 27 8.3 8.1 28 9.2 9.0 29 10.2 9.9 30 11.3 10.9 31 12.5 12.0 32 13.8 13.1 33 15.1 14.4 34 16.5 15.6 35 18.0 17.0 36 19.6 18.4 In addition to the table above, which uses measurements taken from the snout to the fork in the tail, we reproduce below another table which you may find helpful. However this table uses measurements taken from the snout to the end of the flattened down tail.
