Over the last few weeks I've been having some success with surface plugs like the J-11 and Yo Zuri Mag poppers ;D, but only around the exposed coasts on the west coast of the island where the fish are few and far between but that takes (when they come) are arm wrenching. I admit that I've not been fishing much anywhere else but it got me to thinking...
What types of ground or marks (non specific) do other pluggers prefer to fish with poppers? And in what kind of conditions?
Also the presence of dolphins or porpoises in the area seems to turn the bass on. It's happened twice that I've had a take within ten minutes of a pod of dolphins passing. Just coincidence? Or has anyone else experienced this?

john do you think its anything to do with thedolphins feeding maybe stiring up allthe bait fish making it easier for the bass to feed.....just at thought

John
Yes I have noticed the same thing it is a fantastic sight really makes my day ;D. If I see Dolphins or Porpoise I know I am going to catch. I think the Dolphin are there because of a good food supply and hence so are the Bass.

The jury's out on the dolphins for now, will try and keep track of them. What I was really wondering was about the type of ground for poppers? Any thoughts?

shallow rocky beaches tend to do well

shallow rocks are great.Chugbugs even work at night under a glowing moon. Some anglers prefer early morning but I have a mark where they can be caught anytime during the day (only over low water though)providing the water is clear.
