I watched a guy for about 40mins tonight fly fishing for bass up to his waist in the water, at a local mark. It was Rhos point.
I watched in ore, as he effortlessly cast his fly across the gentle surf, The sun was going down behind the Little Orme, and it was a breathtaking sight. I only wish that I wasn't in work, and my waders were intact, not ripped!!
No fish, but who cares when you are out there in those conditions? Like Mark-zapper said catching is a bonus, how true!
Was that you? Red Peugeot estate? Did you catch anything?

Hi mate,
I would think that outfit would be ok. Give 'Kastonfly' or 'JohnK' a pm. They know a thing or two, and would give you far more advice than I could possibly give.

Fishcatcher,
The trout rod should be fine. If it is rated AFTM #8 or above then it should be spot on for the sea. Just remember to give everything a good old rinse in fresh water afterwards. Fly line wise I would recommend either a sink tip, full floater or an intermediate.
As for a line for all occasions I would personally choose an intermediate as you can let it sink longer if you want the depth or if the water has a fair bit of movement and you need to get the fly down, and if you need to fish high in the water due to shallowness, etc. you can begin retrieving straight away. That way you can cover all the 'areas' of the water(s) that you may be fishing.
As for fishing Rhos, I would personally use a full floater as it is relatively shallow and full of 'good' structure. A weighted fly like a clouser, on a nine foot leader, would get the fly down to the right depth in an area like that.
Hope that this helps. If you need any more info, advice, etc. just give us a shout.
PS I will probably be out and about a few evenings (after work) next week and following weekend, but I will probably be afloat in either the float tube or the kayak though. I'd still be more tha happy to meet up somewhere 'worthwhile' though and provide you with a few pointers. By the way if you do intend to fly fish the sea, you would be wise to make yourself a line tray; a small washing up bowl with bungee cord tied around your waist should be all that you need to get you started. Have fun but beware: Salt Water Fly Fishing (SWFF) will take over your life!! You have been warned.
Cheers Steve
