I have caught bass on a jointed thunderstick, (and I have 3 of them! ) but I must admit that this is my all time best lure! Get one of these in your armory, and you won't go far wrong! Its a 'Bomber Long "A"' Go for it! I guess that whatever lure you catch on, gives you confidence! I have even caught a bass on this lure that was 2" longer than it! It just goes to show the predatory instinct of the bass!

Are they Storm jointed thundersticks or Rapala? There's a difference.

Thought I'd change the hooks and tidy my plugs up for the coming season. I have 4 Thundersticks 3 of them jointed. One of them was that badly worn I spent a couple of quid on doing it up today, with some spray paint and lureflash reflective scales. Its the bottom one, what do you think? rzaskar £100 for each one? ;D

Had to think long and hard about that..............No! Seriously though, have you seen the action on these things? AWSOME! without a doubt the best action in any plug, ever, but I still say my Bomber Long A is better!

Yes, you can still pick them occasionally from some inland tackleshops, but I got most of mine from the states where they are still fairly available. Ialso got some from Europe on my travels with work.

Been watching some of these on Ebay - they go for a fortune Are they really worth in excess of £30 each or is there an equivalent? Why, oh, why did they ever stop making them if they are so popular?

No mate! £30??? They are good, don't get me wrong, and if you ever see one in the water you will know why! Having said that, A Bomber long A (jointed) or a decent Rapala, or a decent Yo-Zuri will do the job just as good! If I was to post on here that a 'Murphy Slide Along' caught a 16lb bass in the swellies, then Google would be inundated!! Use the lure that catches fish, not the lure that catches the angler!!! Thundersticks are good though

I have thought of putting a few of mine on ebay but it took me years to build up the collection, I'd feel like I was selling myself out. Its a bit odd - I still look at them on ebay from time to time but have stopped buying. I think the crazed Yank collectors have spoilt it for the fishermen. I have got to agree with Fez in that there are plenty of shallow-swimming substitutes that are more than capable of filling the hole the Thunderstick left, a lot of which cast better aswell. To be honest I don't use mine all that much these days, because in my opinion the other lures are as good if not better.

Harpoon, I have to agree with you that the collectors have spoilt things for us fishermen. What other shallow-swimming lures do you think have filled the gap left by the demise of the jointed thunderstick? Why do they cast better? Still using yours the other day when you split it though! jonese.

I was indeed...and now it isn't! It tends to work best for me when the waters not very clear. Other lures I have found to be good are the Japanese ones with the balls but you have to send off for them. One favourite is the lipless diet minnow with the balls in it but not the one they make now, the old one. The one they make now is OK tho...I think I got mine from Haris. Fester bombers are good aswell, I have some of them too.
